ducks honk
fantails twerk
distant cars grumble
coots sketch reflections
stir sparkle
the water pulses
somewhere a trickle
dead stalks slide a crackle
something dives
I offer as much
silence as I can
score out some words
about wondering
and asking questions
when I wasn’t wondering
or asking questions
between two casuarinas
Notes:
The casuarinas are favourite trees beside Lake Ginninderra that I sometimes visit at lunchtime to contemplate, write or play music. They form a little world of their own, and I’m very conscious of what they, like all trees, offer: oxygen, shade, shelter and homes for birds, insects, plants, funghi and other microbial lifeforms.
